Charles Perrault's Version Of The Cinderella Story

Have you ever heard the story of Cinderella? Many individuals have heard one of the various versions of the “rags to riches” story of a girl getting her chance at being free from servitude. Although this is considered the main idea of the story, many different authors have given twists to the plot of the storyline. While reading this essay, the reader will find some of the differences and similarities between the Grimm Brothers and Charles Perrault’s version of the Cinderella story. While analyzing both stories I found a difference in the description of Cinderella’s appearance for the ball she was to attend. In Perrault’s rendition of Cinderella, she is given glass slippers and a beautiful gold and silver dress. But in the Grimm Brothers version of the story, her godmother has provided her with a beautiful gold and silver dress with slippers that are silk and silver. Although the dresses sound very similar and most likely were thought to be, the slippers were described differently in each story making it a contrast between the two versions in the appearance of Cinderella. While comparing the stories, a difference between the two found was the description of the slippers given to Cinderella to attend the ball in. Another difference was the description of her fairy godmother or the being that provided her with her desires and needs to be able to attend the ball. The reader may also found two similarities within the essay and one of them being the stepsisters and stepmother being cruel and evil to Cinderella throughout both interpretations of the story.
