Charles Manson is the founder of the Manson family. He is the mastermind behind many devistating murders in the late 1960's. Charles is still alive but is living in jail. He got a sentance for life in prison after what he has done. Charles childhood may have been the cause of all his destructive activites. Let us start by looking at a history about Charles Manson and his activites while leader of the Manson family. In 1934, Charles Milles Maddox was born to an unmarried sixteen year old prostituite named Kathleen Maddox. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Charles got his name a few weeks after he was born, his last name changed to Charles when Kathleen married William Manson. This marrage did not last long. Charles's boilogical father was Colonel Walker Scott but it is unknown if he acctually ever met his father. Charles's mother was allegely an alcoholic and she once sold Charles to a waitress so she could buy beer. Charles's uncle had to go get him back. In 1939, Kathleen and her bother were place in jail for stealing. At this time Charles went to live with his aunt and uncle in West verginia. Kathleen was released in 1942, she went and got Charles and lived in rundown hotels. “The hug from Kathleen on the day she came to get Charles is his only happy childhood memory.” (Emmons, 1988) In 1974 Kathleen tried to place Charles in a foster home but the court placed him in Glbault School for boys. Charles was there ten months before he fled and went to live with his mother, who rejected him. Charles had no were to go. He did what most juvenles do and stole money from a store in order to rent a room. He stole money and other iteams from many differnt stores. Charles was caught steeling and was sent to a juvenile center. Charles escaped from the center after being there one day. He was then recaptuered and sent to a boys orphanage. Charles was at the orphanage for four days before he escaped with another boy. The boys stool guns and commited two armed robberies while on their …show more content…
They were caught driving in California. Charles was sent to another boys school in washington D.C. He spent four years there and had an I.Q of 109 but he was illiterate. During his time at this boys school, Charles was called aggressively antisocial. In october 1951, Charles was moved to a minimum security institution. About a month before Charles was schedualed to get out of the institution, one of the boys was found with “a razor blade and held it against another boy's throat while Manson sodomized him.” ( Bugliosi, Curt 1994) Charles was then moved to a Federal Reformatory, where he was considered dangerous. About six months after arriving at the federal Reformatory, Charles was moved to another Federal Reformatory that is a more secure intitution. This was do to many serious disciplinary offenses. Charles was at the second Federal Reformatory about a month and he was a completely different person. He had good work habbits and Charles raises his educational level. The Reformatory even gave him an early parole. A condition of the parole was Charles had to live with his Aunt and uncle back in West Virginia. He only lived with them a short while, then moved in with his
