The reasoning behind the Manson Family murders and why exactly Charles Manson created his ‘family’ has been researched for decades. Over the years people have spoken to Charles Manson to fully understand the intricate inner workings of his mind and what happened the night of those heinous crimes. During my research there were many direct sources from Charles Manson himself, Linda Kasabian, who was at the scene of the Tate-LaBianca murders, along with many scholarly articles stating the inner workings of cults and serial killers. There is a lot of discussion and criticism about Charles Manson and what exactly made him the way that he was. This curiosity is often quickly satisfied by a quick Google search. Charles Manson wasn’t shy by any means, and he willingly spoke to anyone who would listen about his life and how he became one of the most well-known cult leaders in the world. The sources that come up with a search are usually books or articles in which Manson himself had agreed to be interviewed, along with authors who have reached out to get the inside scoop from him and his followers. In Guinn, Jeff (2013), “Manson: The Life and Times of Charles Manson,” Guinn states that Manson’s upbringing was unfavorable to most due to his unreliable mother and lack of father. “It was possible to pity the boy-he didn’t have a father, and now his unreliable mother was in jail.” His lack of familial care coincided with his ability to misbehave, “If he couldn’t get noticed for doing something right, he was just as willing to attract attention by misbehaving.
