Charles Manson. The man who organized a group to kill Sharon Tate. The man who had the same group kill so many other innocent individuals. The man who got the swastika on his head during his trial in court. He was the man whom everyone knows as Charles Manson. The group he organized, “The Family”, was a killing cult who took all the blame for the death of Sharon Tate. That killing was the one that turned the nation upside-down in 1969. Charles Manson was born on November 12th, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His birth name was Charles Miles Maddox and was born to a girl by the name of Kathleen Maddox, a 16-year-old girl whom happened to be an alcoholic and a prostitute. He committed “small” crimes such as stealing cars, for example. Around 1951, he was placed in prison and was considered dangerous. He soon picked up what the benefits were in being a “model prisoner.” In 1955, Charles Manson married a woman by the name of Rosalie Jean Willis. When she became pregnant, Charles got back into crime and wound up in prison once again. 1956, Rosalie left with the child and began loving someone else. While on probation, Charles Manson had another child but with another woman. Charles Manson began killing a year after he was released from prison on March 21st, 1967. Not only did drugs have an impact on Charles’ mind, but the song “Helter Skelter” from The Beatles helped influenced his killings. This time period is when Manson started to grab people and pull them into the cult known as “The Family.” A common pattern between the people Manson chose for his cult shared an interest in hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD or “magic mushrooms.” Charles Manson had about 100 people being his followers, being all women and men. The way Manson had convinced his people to follow him was by convincing them all that he was Jesus, and that a black victory would occur from an upcoming race war. He believed the Armageddon would break out. None of Manson’s followers doubted
