Charles loved horses and owned some of the best in the area. One day when Charles and Sarah were living on Redwood Road, some Indians stole a team of their horses. A week later, one of the horses returned home. Charles mounted the horse and rode down where Liberty Park currently sits. The area was all covered with willow trees and was wet and swampy. He saw his missing horse tied up. He rode over to get it and just as he was going to get his horse, an Indian shot an old musket loader at him and Charles fell to the ground. The shot missed him and he jumped on his horse he had been riding and rode out of there in a hurry. It wasn’t too long after that his missing horse came home with one of those leathers
