Together, Dickens and Catherine lived together for fifteen years and had ten children. During the time of the birth of their first child, Charley Dickens, Dickens was working on his novel Oliver Twist. After some time Dickens found Catherine an incompatible partner and would blame her for the birth of their children, which made writing difficult for him (F. Kaplan).
