Charles Darwin was born into privilege and wealth, and always had a passion for nature and exploration. When Darwin was just eight years old, his mother, Susannah, died. Some awards Darwin received during his life are, the Royal medal, Wollaston medal, and Copley medal. The Royal medal is a silver-gilt medal awarded for the most contributions to the advancement of natural knowledge, and for distinguished contributions in applied sciences. Darwin won this medal in 1853, for his work on geological observations on Volcanic islands, coral reefs, and South America. The Wollaston medal is a scientific award for geology, awarded by Geological Society of London. Another award darwin received is the Copley medal, awarded by the Royal Society of London, for any outstanding achievements in research in any branch of science.
