The sweet expensive cake of strawberry flavor was held dearly to the parents. The cake was about thirty-six dollars. It was double layered with the best quality cream spelling out “Charles Ross, Happy Birthday.” On the inside was deluxe harlequin ice cream coated with sponge cake. The mom got the knife, and started to dig the knife into the surface of the aromatic mixture of exclusive ingredients. One slice was julienned and given to the dad first, in hopes he would be more active in the welfare of the family.
While Hannek was cleaning up the chess pieces, he attempted to retrieve the black king, but Hannek’s arm unintentionally made Damien lose grip of the plate holding the slice of the extravagant cake. The plate shattered onto the floor. After five seconds of silence, Damien started to have a difference in expression. Hannek backed up, and knocked the stool holding the exclusive cake. The cake fell onto the cheap wooden floor, with remnants of dirt scattered about. A leg of the stool cracked, and the dad wanted revenge. All he ever cared about was himself. He was turning 9. Midnight of his birthday struck, and Charles had intensified nightmares of Dad as a monstrous man. Charles woke up suddenly, sweating on his back. He gasped for a deep breath as he walked to the restroom, while the forgotten abhorrent memory throbbed throughout his body. When he saw himself in the mirror, a sudden shock took him aback as he panicked. The mirror envisioned him with the same raggy bloody-soaked shirt he wore one year ago. After trembling, he decided to attempt to have fun with his family to get his mind of this excruciatingly painful memory of the past. At night, they decided to have a cake, of course cheaper this time around, for his birthday. Charles was allowed to slice the small cake. As he took one slice, Charles hallucinated, envisioning the cake as the head of Damien and the knife as the bloody blade a year ago. His hands shook in fear, causing it to slip out of his hands. He pictured the the blood on the floor, and he ran upstairs. Karmin walked up. “Charles? Are you okay?” She entered the room in hopes of changing Charles to his normal
