The point of view a story is told in is one of the most important parts of a story, therefore picking the right point of view is crucial to writing a successful story. The first person point of view is the most effective in the short story “Charles” by Shirley Jackson. This is proven because one gets an innocent perspective of the story while simultaneously understanding the narrator’s feelings and had the story been in another point of view, the plot would have been ruined. When a story is told in the first person, one can connect with the narrator and can view the story as if they are watching it happen.
