Analysis Of Charles Blow's Article 'White Supremacists'

White Supremacy, democrats, and the degradation of women are the main focuses of all columnist Charles Blow’s articles. As a biased author, Blow supports only one side of his argument; that President Donald Trump is a white supremacist and is doing more harm to our country than good. Although his main audience and focus is on anti-Trump supporters and democrats, his argument is also an attempt to sway Trump supporters over to the anti side. His evidence is weak because it is not factual, yet rather opinion based (i.e. surveys, polls, tweets, etc.). By providing examples of tweets from the President, Blow attempts to show how Trump is a white supremacist. He also uses examples from past speeches by Donald Trump where he alludes to an implication that Trump believes white is the superior race. Blow says “Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself with other white supremacists,” (Blow, “Is Trump a white”). He expresses a lot of emotion such as anger and passion when talking about Trump’s presidency. “This battle Trump insists on maintaining also serves a wider goal for him: distraction. As long as we focus on the latest outrage he publishes on Twitter...the less time we have to focus on the fact that his presidency thus far is a colossal legislative failure…” (Blow, “Attacking Media”). This line, along with others, alludes to the fact that Blow is not a fan of Donald Trump. It also showcases the amount of anger he has towards Trump. This derogatory tone affects the writing because it’s a reflection of how the author feels, therefore it affects how the reader will perceive the message that’s trying to be conveyed. In this case, the message Blow is trying to get across is that Trump’s presidency is failing. This causes readers to look at the situation with a whole new perspective. Since Blow only ever argues his prefered side, his readers only see one side too. This makes it easy for Blow to suade people over to his biased side because only one side of the story is ever being
