Since his armies were always fighting, Charlemagne's gave land to his warriors so they could equip and support themselves. This important gift was able to secure an army of warriors who were deeply loyal and devoted to Charlemagne. By the year 800, the Frankish kingdom included all of modern Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, France, and most of Germany along with large areas of Spain and Italy. Clearly, it seemed that Charlemagne was another Constantine, and possibly even another Augustus Caesar.…
On an asphalt baseball field in Brooklyn, two teams from local Yeshivah schools meet. At first, it just seems like a baseball game between two Jewish high school teams. But the game quickly turns into a holy war when the caftan and ear lock wearing Hasidic team begins to taunt and bully the less conservative “hell-bound sinners” on the other team. Hate boils as Danny Saunders, the leader of the Hasidic team, purposely hits a pitch right back at the pitcher, crushing his glasses and landing him in the hospital for a week. This is how Chaim Potok 's book The Chosen begins.…

It is hard to say that Wes story could have been the Other Wes and the other Wes could have been Wes story. There are many a lot of differences and similarities in both characters not only in how they view things but in the support they have in their everyday lives. From the beginning both Wes and the other Wes shared similarities, like having single moms and living in a bad neighborhood but what makes their lives entirely different is that one had a fighter as a mom and had lots of support from family members while the other Wes mom over looked a lot of things and didn’t have support from anyone. One of the things that has had a different view from both characters is why their fathers weren’t there. Knowing your father couldn’t be there…
Notker and Einhard both wrote accounts about Charlemagne, titled "The Life of Charlemagne. " They both respected him as a Christian and leader of the Franks, however they take an alternate point of view on him. Einhard actually knew Charlemagne, and displays him as a three-dimensional, reasonable individual, with numerous achievements a few failings. Notker considers him to be a legend that he took in of from his older folks, overwhelming and larger than life. Einhard laid out his life story logically,as a kind of historical record of Charles’ life, while Notker put together more of a collection of anecdotes.…
Charlemagne’s main concern was education and religion, so he attended one of his many schools as a student, and sent Monks to preserve and spread Christianity to new lands. After Charlemagne’s death, internal and outside…
This shows the way in which Charlemagne approached the running of his empire with dignity and honor and the belief in doing what was right. There is also a similar theme present in Beowulf. After Beowulf returned from the land of the Danes, the King of the Geats was killed. As was custom, the throne proceeded to his son. However, the Queen held “no belief in her son’s ability to defend their homeland against foreign invaders” (Beowulf 2371-2372).…
Einhard composes Life of Charlemagne in 825 AD with the intention of commemorating King Charles’s well rounded devotion to his kingdom and his family, as he went beyond the expected duties of a King. Throughout the course of his life, Einhard had became very fond of the King and felt it his responsibility to preserve his knowledge of the King’s great deeds subsequent to the King’s death. Einhard provides a detailed piece of writing in which he eternalizes the deeds enacted by the King through which the King’s devotion, to both his kingdom and his family, is reflected. First, Einhard provides some detail about rulers who came before King Charles. In doing so, he provides the reader the opportunity to create a comparison in which King Charles…
When I was in junior high school, I had a friend name Lourdes. Lourdes was a smart young girl who came from a respectable family. In addition, since Einhard did not have much himself, writing this biography could be his way of paying Charlemagne back for all that he has done for him during his reign. Einhard’s biography could be considered a positive propaganda and a way to encourage people to view Charlemagne in a more positive light rather than one of greed and…
