Weight and diabetes management in people who develop Charcot foot as a result of poorly controlled diabetes are very important in terms of slowing the progression of the Charcot foot as well as reducing the risk of further diabetic neuropathy. (1)

There have been a variety of strategies proposed in terms of helping people lose weight and gain better control of their diabetes. This literature review will have a look at some of those. Helping the patient who has developed Charcot foot lose weight will assist in taking the pressure off the foot. This is particularly important as their bones that have already become weak as a result of the Charcot foot could collapse and become even more deformed due to their heavy weight. (1)
