Morality, the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior (Webster), a concept that is exploited throughout a short story entitled “A good man is hard to find” written by Flannery O’connor. The story introduces two distinct characters, a grandmother and the misfit to question readers of their true knowledge of just behaviors. When one thinks of a grandmother they imagine a woman in her late years, one who is nice and welcoming to all, one who bakes cookies, and one who teaches others of moral behaviors. On the other hand when one thinks of a serial killer they envision a cold hearted criminal who doesn 't have a care in the world about anybody else’s feelings besides his. She was woman who always found something wrong in the actions of those around her. She would nag constantly to the point where, her family would regards her as nothing but an annoyance. She ended up forcing the family to go on a road trip, one that would be their last. Several signs of misfortune were hidden within the contents of the story, an example would be when the grandmother randomly picked up a news article of the misfit and began to read it, she said " I wouldn 't take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it”, after this statement readers already had the feel is a terrible ending, a deadly one. The next sign emerged when the family stopped at a burger spot and the grandmother engaged in a conversation about the misfit with the owner, it was there that the grandmother also suggested a change of route, one that would lead them to their death. Other signs were a little harder to depict, like the fact that they passed six grave yards throughout their journey, which signified six deaths. There are also a few descriptions of the grandmother that gave readers the idea that she would be involved in something directly linked with the misfit, and that would be her personality. All she did was criticize everything, the misfit, her grandkids, her daughter in law and even a small african-american child that she saw outside of the window in a plantation. During a conversation between herself and the misfit, she described herself , as a just woman one who had mercy, she begged the misfit for mercy and told him all about how she was a good woman and how God liked those who were forgiving and humble, this was all an effort to convince the misfit not to kill them. The point behind their conversation was to show readers the the face behind the grandmother to show that she might just be worse than the misfit, for she was the one who got her family into
