I glanced at Cassidy, and her expression was a mixture of shock and horror” (84). This statement gives off a conflict because there is an obvious reason why Cassidy does not want to join debate. Ezra has now pushed Cassidy too far, Cassidy not wanting to talk about her decision. Additionally the text states, “‘Oh honey.’ She’d never called me that before, and I didn’t like it. ‘Isn’t it obvious? You. Me. Dating. I was amusing myself. And then my boyfriend drove down from San Francisco to surprise me. He just ran to the gas station to buy cigarettes. You probably don’t want to be here when he gets back.’” Cassidy creates this major conflict that will affect him greatly in his personal life. Cassidy leads Ezra on by leading a double life. In the end, this story packs in a great amount of conflicts for example, the struggles between Ezra and Cassidy, shown through the story. The endings of stories are crucial to making a good tale. Endings are used for wrapping up the falling action, explaining the mysteries, and tying up loose ends. Without endings, stories would constantly have one event after another happen with no stopping point and the conclusion would be left of to a reader 's imagination. Due to the vitality of endings, readers must evaluate them based one whether or not they do a fine job at concluding the story instead of whether the ending is happy or not. In The October Killings by Wessel Ebersohn, the ending takes place over three chapters.…

My favorite aspect of this book was the way all of the themes worked symbiotically to create a very dynamic story. This book forced me to pay attention to the plot, something I can say about very few books. The complexity of Slaughterhouse-Five resided in the inability or unwillingness of Vonnegut to settle on a single theme or mode of discourse It took me until the end of the first chapter to discover what was going on; I even thought I had picked up the author’s edition by mistake.…

The short story, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” by Ambrose Bierce, is a very suspenseful story about a man who is to be executed for war crimes. There are many literary devices that contribute to the creation of suspense that foreshadow the end of this story, three of which will be reviewed. Coyote Character Analysis

The centralized theme of the novel is the evil of mankind. In the novel, evil is an entity that can possess people against their will – like a spirit. Although that may sound like the run-of-the-mill Webster’s definition of evil, there is a difference, which is that in the novel, evil is personified. The novel uses its events to show how evil works in the real world, in a slightly mellow dramatic, but realistic way. Also, evil in this novel is known as Coyote, and this is because evil is being represented from the Native American point of view: “The thing is, Coyote keeps getting born, over and over,” said Bertha Moses.…
