The characters in the novel, Lord of the Flies, all have very distinct personalities and traits. These qualities make them easily comparable to the people around us. Some of the characters could possibly relate to the people closest to us, maybe even ourselves. In my life, I am able to compare the characters Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon to people at my school and in my family.
In the book, Ralph comes in already being a sagacious leader. He reminds me of my older brother, Cale, who is a born leader, and is selfless when it comes to helping other people. He is able to inspire using only his example. They are both very conscious of other’s feelings and thoughts while trying to decide the best possible outcome …show more content…
Jack has a very well-defined stance within his choir, but it doesn’t travel far after that. After knowing Preston for a long time, I’ve come to see that he has an overpowering personality when it comes to people he can control, but tends to hide under a rock when proven to be less dominant. He can get drawn into competitiveness without realizing how far he has gone. One example is how he acts: being a football player, he has a pretty outgoing character and when he is in the middle of a football game, anything he is not in control of stresses him out, making him even more aggressive. One example of Jack in the book is when he becomes ruthless, “And you shut up! Who are you, anyway? Sitting there telling people what to do… Bollocks to the rules! We’re strong-we hunt!” (Golding 91). Being a leader by force is a quality that comes to both Jack and Preston and that is why they remind me of each …show more content…
During the course of the plot, Jack gets caught up in his drive to hunt. This is similar to when my father gets engrossed in his work, and forgets to separate that life with his family life at home. My father has many leading roles in his life, but some have to be led strictly with some force. When Jack uses a vigorous nature to lead his hunters, he can get caught up with his authority without realizing what is going on around him. One example in the novel is when he leads his choir to hunt a pig while letting the fire die out, losing the chance to escape the island. When my father comes home after a long day of work, he can be a little harsh because he doesn’t know how others’ days went. Based on his day, he expects the whole family to be in the same mood as him, but when we’re not, He gets a little frustrated. This is how the character, Jack, in Lord of the Flies closely resemble my father.
When reading books, we are able to compare the characters to the people around us. Because others have such an influence in our lives, we are able to see their qualities in other people or characters. In the novel, the characters all have their own perspectives and personalities that impact the plot and storyline, as well as people around having a great effect on others’
