The stem cells have the unique capacity to develop into any part of the body. They also serve as tissues for the internal repairs of the body and the organs of the body. As long as any species is alive the stem cells have the capacity to divide rapidly to repair the organs or to grow into any type of body parts in the body in any living organism. When the division of cells takes place they have the capacity to stay as stem cells or to become another form of cell type with specialized functions and attributes. The two basic characteristics of stem cells are that they renew themselves by cellular division, this is possible even if they remain dormant and inactive for prolonged periods of time and under clinical or experimental conditions they …show more content…
Research has shown that these cells when left to proliferate in the laboratory conditions that an proliferate into millions of cells and can remain in their parent stem cell state for prolonged periods of time which is characteristic of only the stem cells. However this is not a function that the adult stem cells can perform which is another characteristic of the stem cell basics. The most important property of the stem cell is that it is an unspecialized cell and has not particular specialized function that can be attributed to it as a stem cell function. The reason for its existence is to be able to grow specialized cells for specialized functions which is why they are of vital importance today of used ethically. The fertilization process is induced clinically though in vitriol fertilization with the informed consent of the sample participant. These are then donated for the purposes of research and the advanced stages of proliferation, differentiation and growing specialized cells is done in the laboratory by the process known as cell culture. Embryonic cells are not developed each time the stems cells are taken from the pre-implanted embryo and placed for cell culture in the laboratory. If and when the cells survive and can multiply and cover the culture dish then they are removed and placed in several dishes in order to further proliferate. This process is repeated several times over months and the process comes to be known as ‘pre-plating and sub-culturing’ of stem cells. Every cycle of subculture is known as a passage. If and when the cell line is confirmed then the original stem cells have the capacity to provide millions of stem cells through proliferation. When a confirmed line of stem cells has proliferated for a prolonged period of time and yet as not differentiated they are known as ‘pluri-potent’ and are known to be the stem cells from the original embryonic stem cell line.
A standard set of tests for the stem cells research has not yet been created but there searchers who experiment with stem cells use several different methods of testing the fundamental characteristics and the properties
