A safe environment is important and can be developed by building a child’s self esteem, being patient with students and believing in them (Sites.google.com, 2014). John Dewey believed in students learning by doing and trying a mixture of methods that aids in information preservation. That is a student has a unique style of learning or preference for specific approaches that is efficient and allows for understanding and retention of the information or topic being taught. Hence effective teaching and learning strategies include the appreciation that all students can learn through the creation of a supportive environment coupled with respect, value and believe in one’s students and feedback as a key for gleaning insights into individual students. These teaching philosophies have reinforced my original beliefs that the classroom and teacher are important in the success of a student’s academic life.
