Similarities Between Male And Female Of Two Bruchinae Species

Superior Essays
We have observed the morphological traits from male and female of two Bruchinae species, which are Senegalia tenuifolia seed-predators, and how these traits are influenced by the resource traits variation under different conditions such as sampling events and sites. In respect to our hypothesis in which the increase in resource quantity increases body size and biomass, we have confirmed it partially.
In general, female insects tend to have a larger body size than the males, and the difference between male and female is more pronounced when observing the body biomass (Colgoni & Vamosi 2006). However, our system pointed out an opposite pattern for both species, corroborated by the longevity experiment set up in the laboratory. Male M. terani individuals are larger than females, however, until now, only species from the genus Stator were described having males larger than females (Savali & Fox 1998, Fox et al. 2003). Furthermore, even though males and females consume the same amount of seed, in the field and in the longevity experiment, the male beetle bodies were heavier than the female bodies.
Beetles that emerged late (fruit in a ripe stage) from seeds were larger and heavier than individuals emerging early (fruit in an unripe stage), however there were no differences in body size across areas for M. terani, whereas

Assuming the fact that S. maculatophygus did not presented any relationship between biomass and tibia length, while the abundant one did, is striking us. Nevertheless, the allometric data presented here is important to more deeply describe both species and their morphological traits aspect variation. Further investigations are necessary considering the male and female and how resource quantities may influence their allometry

A invasive species is a species that is not native to a certain area. A invasive species is also most likely to cause enviromental harm. The Asian Long Horned Beetle is invasive because it was accidentally shipped to America and it is causing enviromental harm. like all plants and animals, the Asian Long-Horned Beetle has amazing characteristics; it also has negative and positives on North America. The most effective removal method is to start cutting down all the trees, since the Asian Long-Horned Beetle feeds on them.…

Discussion The threespine sticklebacks’ (Gasterosteus aculeatus) ability in evolving help them achieve the greatest amount of fitness and success for the future year. The group used the variable predation and calcium concentration to understand the stickleback better. Before measuring the group made a primary and secondary hypothesis. The primary hypothesis concluded that rainbow trout predation acts as selective source on the spine size of three spine stickleback because the different sizes of spines will indicate the difficulty of eating that particular stickleback. The secondary hypothesis concluded that the spine size in threespine stickleback is affected by the calcium limitation in the environment because the bones require calcium to grow and strengthen. While the group was measuring, they saw that the predation for the tout was longer than 8’ which helped measuring the calcium concentration because the calcium forms the bones in organisms.…

Determining the affects of natural selection on gall fly (Eurosta) larvae from different predators Ariel O’Neil Biology 1020H Abstract This lab was done with the objective of determining if directional selection causes early larvae death in the gall fly. By first examining the parasitoid wasp and birds predatory actions we can hypothesize and predict the smaller galls will be most likely to survive directional selection.…

In the animal kingdom, there are species that carry visual markers for the primitive condition, shown by a common ancestor. In primates, this is noticed largely in suborder Strepsirrhini and they are lower primates. In this suborder, there are four families that I will be primarily focused on: Daubentoniidae, Lorisidae, Galagidae and Lemuridae. These species live in varied locations through Africa, Asia, and Madagascar. There are selective pressures their environment as documented by Viguier (2002) who found that their physical appearance is affected by the changes in their habitat.…

Tragelaphus angasii (Nyala) of the Bovidae family, known and familiar to southern Africa, can be observed and studied for the size of its elaborate, slightly twisted horns. This trait can be seen as an adaptative trait due to the variety of horn lengths and sizes in Bovids, as well as a heritable trait, due to the continual frequency in horns throughout generations, in the species of Nyala. The adaptivity and heritability of this trait can be analyzed through the natural history of the species of Bovids, observing how horns are used in combat as a sign of defense to other males of their same species (Lundrigan 1996). What is currently known on this species is how different lengths of horns are used in different forms of combat (Lundrigan 1996),…

They also position them in areas that provide substantial cover and protection from predators to enhance their survival rates. For example, areas such as holes of submerged plant stem to shield them for them to be covered from all predators and after hatching providing them shelter for their transition (Inoda, 2011). For our experiment, we specifically studied the Callosobruchus maculatus or the Bean Beetle. The life cycle for the Bean Beetle is extremely fast and does not require much attentiveness or monitoring. Mature beetles of this species do not need a source of fresh food or water.…

Environmental Issue Paper, Justin Roch, ENG 101 E, 11/15/16 In the past couple of decades, an unprecedented threat to North America’s trees and forests has emerged in the form of two invasive species of beetles, the Asian Longhorned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer. Both beetles are major pests of widespread forest and neighborhood trees, and if left unchecked, have the potential to completely change the character of our forests. Although not as widely known as some higher-profile environmental issues, invasive species like the Asian Longhorned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer are nevertheless one of the greatest problems facing the environment today, and is a problem that is likely to grow still greater in the future.…
