Bass The Earl And The Dying Girl Analysis

Last year, I was passive during my biology class. I was assigned to do a group project with two other students who only talked and did none of the work. Instead of asking them to help or telling the teacher I just did all the work myself in order to get a good grade. I was being passive because I just allowed this to happen without doing anything about it. Often characters in stories are also passive. Greg from “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” and the narrator from “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” are two examples of this characteristic. Although both characters are both passive, Greg is more passive. Greg is passive. He is told by his mom that Rachel, a friend from his childhood who he hasn't talked to for years now has been diagnosed with leukemia, and will probably die soon. Greg doesn’t try very hard to get in touch with her and would rather just sit at home and watch TV. Until his mom comes in.“On Friday I had intention of calling her whatsoever. When I got home from school I went straight to the TV room to watch a movie. Mom walked in and pulled one of her trademark moves. She shut off the TV, opened her mouth and emitted a nonstop stream stream of words…”You are going to pick up your phone, you are going to call Rachel, you are going to arrange to spend time with her!”. Another time when Greg is passive is when he is starting to fail his classes due to the amount of time he is spending with Rachel, and he is being lectured by one of his teachers. “Your schoolwork is definitely suffering. This is a true fact. I’ve talked to your other teachers. In all of your classes, you’re unfocused, and you’re not participating, and you’re forgetting to do assignments. And in a few classes, bud, you’re pretty deep underwater. Let me unload another fact on you. Rachel, doesn’t want you to fail your classes.” “Yeah” I said”. He is being passive because he isn’t doing anything about how he is failing her classes and continues to not do

In the book, Chua tells us a story about how Lulu and Sophia made her birthday cards that were unsatisfactory and how she forced them to make better ones. She further explains, “I gave the card back to Lulu.…

E.B. White, in his essay “Farewell, My Lovely”, writes about the legacy of the Model T during one of the hardest times in American history, the Great Depression. Through his writing, White reveals the significance the Model T holds to the ever-changing American culture. He uses the Model T to model the Great Depression, and to reminisce on memories of when the Model T was popular. He does this by introducing the Model T as a divine provision: “It was the miracle God had wrought.” The Model T was more than a vehicle; to White, “it was hardworking, commonplace, heroic”, these qualities influenced those who were fortunate enough to own one.…
