Substance Abuse In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World

Most of the time, people in the society does not really care themselves and doing things without thinking the things that will came up after. In novel, there are many situation that people decide to use soma to make them being happiness than make it by themselves. Soma only gives happiness at first glance, but it is one of the most devastating society development distractions. Currently, most of people choose to run away from a problem, they use to do everything that can escape from a problem more than to face and solve a problem. Instead people in Brave new world society to bearing with the sadness, they will just take soma to control their emotions and keep rely on it. Even though it does not has any side effects, take soma too much is harmful and it can be overdose for body. In brave new world, there is an example shows that Lynda took soma too much and it is lead to cause of her death. As Lenina (1932) stated, “I don’t know what you mean. I am free. Free to have the most wonderful time. Everybody’s happy nowadays.” (pg.79), this is a quote that Lenina said to Bernard. As it is shows, Bernard was disagree with Lenina because at first chapter Bernard does disagree every things in Brave new world society, but Lenina does agree every things that came up in Brave new world society. From the quotes, it is shows how Lenina think soma can make her feel freedom and being happiness which is different from Bernard. Lenina is not only one who thinks soma is the things that make her relax, everyone else in society does thinks same as Lenina too.
