with this. In the spring of 1527, five spanish ships set sail for the new world to
establish settlement, but their journey was not a success because unpredictable
weather conditions caused them to land in Modern day tampa bay. The leader of this
journey was a conquistador named panfilo de narvaez along with him was Cabeza De
Vaca. After two difficult months on Tampa Bay without treasure, their goal was no longer
colonization, it was survival. How did Cabeza de vaca survie? He used his knowledge

“We suffered
many annoyances and great disputes with the spaniards, because they wanted to
enslave the indians we brought with us…..The christians told the Indians that we had
been lost for a long time, and that we were people of ill fortune and no worth” This shows us that the indians and Cabeza were on the same side, which means they both
cared and respected each other. “Everything that the indians gave us, we returned.”
(Document D) The indians gave supplies to Cabeza De Vaca which means that they like
him. When Cabeza gave the supplies back it shows the indians that he respects them
and their supplies.
Even though it was a rough journey, Cabeza survived by using survival skills, having
success as a healer, and having respect for the natives. In my opinion, Cabeza should
have been the leader of the 5 ships that set sail in early 1527 because he is a great
leader with many accomplishments. I hope people will continue to research Cabeza De
