What is an epic hero? An epic hero is someone who is helpful, Brave and loyal just like Beowulf. The author was an anonymous Anglo saxon poet, he was known as the “Beowulf poet”. In the story, Beowulf is a warrior from Geats he goes and helps Hrothgar, The king of the Danes who is being attacked by a monster who was known as Grendel. Young Beowulf is being compared to Old Beowulf. Young and old Beowulf have different, yet similar traits in how they show characteristics of an epic hero. Beowulf had a few different traits when he was young, to start off, how was he stronger than any man? “ And the strongest of the Geats/ Greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world”( Raffle 42 Ln. 110-111). This quote proves that he was stronger than anyone in this world. It’s like he had some kind of superhuman strength. He was so strong he survived many dangerous battles, “ Beowulf/ a prince of the Geats had killed Grendel/ ended the grief, the sorrow, the suffering/ forced the Hrothgar’s helpless people, by a bloodthirsty fiend. Beowulf kills Grendel, Grendel’s mom, and the dragon. All of the battles he went through no one else was able or willing to do it. How is an epic hero today considered? An epic hero has the following traits, Loyalty, Selfless, and super strength just like Beowulf did. What we can learn about Beowulf is choose your battles, fighting with someone who is ignorant when you know you’re right is just ridiculous and just makes you look dumb as well. Know when to continue something and when to let it go. The biggest win is knowing when to stop and at least have the satisfaction that they’re incorrect and will never know
