Nursing research is a research that provides evidence used to support nursing practices. It is a systematic study designed to develop knowledge about issues of importance in nursing as a profession.
TYPES OF NURSING RESEARCH
1. Applied research: this is scientific research and study that seek to solve practical problems. It is used in solving everyday problems, to develop innovative technologies and to cure illness and not to acquire knowledge for knowledge sake. Example applied research can be used to investigate how to treat or cure specific disease, or how to improve agricultural crop production.
2. Basic research: also known as pure or fundamental research driven by curiosity of scientist or interest in a scientific …show more content…
More research is needed in the assessment of the teaching-learning process and outcomes at every level of nursing education.
New models of nursing education are also needed to prepare nurses for faculty and research position earlier enough. Moreover, lack of recognition and funds for this research has impaired progress in this area of research.
CHARACTERISTICS OF NURSING RESEARCH
1. The research can be duplicated to help the researcher to achieve valid and comprehensive result
2. Because it requires some level of expertise the researcher must prepare adequately to undertake such behavior
3. Research involves gathering of new and existing data from first-hand information or new sources
4. Nursing research are carefully recorded and reported
5. It is empirical in nature. The research is based on direct experience and demands precise observation and description of what is being studied
6. Directed toward providing solution to the problem
7. Requires innovative …show more content…
Hypothesis: is an educated or calculated guess from the researcher, so the statement predicts relationship between two or more variables.
B. Pilot study: is a small-scale of the actual study conducted for the purpose of refining and testing the research plan. It is sometimes called exploratory study.
C. Research design: it the overall plan for a research study
D. Population: the total number of individual or group of people or things meeting designed criteria of interest to the researcher. It is also known as target population.
E. Sampling: it is the process of selecting a sample from the target population
F. Sample: this is the smaller part of the population, selected in a way that the sample individuals represent as much as possible the characteristics of the population.
G. Model: this is a symbolic representation of reality used to show the interrelationships among a set of concepts or phenomena that cannot be observed directly but do represent reality.
H. Research proposal: it is sometimes called a prospectus. It is the detailed written description of a proposed research study.
I. Abstract: this is the concise summary of a study that expresses the important information about the
