Thinking about what really makes up an effective teacher should be something that crosses your mind more than once. Especially when you are on your way to becoming one yourself. There are two points under the characteristics of effective teachers section: clarity and organization and warmth and enthusiasm. Then they have a larger section under the two points dedicated to teacher knowledge. These characteristics described by the book are correct. Together they do create an effective teacher. However, an effective teacher is much deeper than just these characteristics. There are other characteristics that fall into category with these. An effective teacher is much more than these traits. Taxonomy was developed by Benjamin Bloom originally improve university examines. It is the concept that educational objectives should be classified into three different domains: cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Taxonomy is essentially organizing objectives into a hierarchy, all the skills build with each other. Them being less effective if an objective is out of order or not appropriately addressed. The cognitive domain is top of the hierarchy, which means it is most critical it is met first. The book also states that the most writing and resources have erupted from the cognitive domain, which makes its importance speak even louder. Cognitive domain is based around the actual thinking. It consists of six standards: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The affective domain is the emotional response. Receiving, responding, valuing, organizing, and characterization are the goals of the affective domain. This is specifically how important the knowledge/information is to the student. Everyone has an emotional opinion on what they are learning regardless if they say it or not. It is your job to make it meaningful and that you deliver the information is such a say that the students are able to follow through with all the objectives listed. Lastly is the psychomotor domain. His teacher assigns him several homework assignments weekly. Witnessing him proves to me how harmful homework can be, especially if the teacher assigns it so carelessly. I think he has three varying worksheets per week, at least one worksheet of cursive practice and reading log requirements. He sits in his room crying from frustration often. He begs my mother to not make him do it and always puts it off until the last minute. He hates homework and until this year he never really had a big problem with it.
