How important is it for you to know the credentials and experiences of a surgeon before you allow him to perform surgery on you? A surgeon’s reputable credentials and years of positive experience can bring about peace in the life of a patient as he prepares for surgery.

Who is this God we should trust?
The more we know of God’s character, the more we are open to trust Him during our trials and it is God’s desire that we trust Him. Proverb 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your understanding.”
This lesson will focus on three pertinent characteristics of God:
1) The Sovereignty of God
2) The Wisdom of God
3) The Goodness of God

1. The Sovereignty of God
Definitions of Sovereignty:
a. “Supreme and independent power or authority in a state.”
b. “Sovereignty of God, his absolute right to do all things according to his own good pleasure.”

The sovereignty of God’s is simply expressed as “God is in total control.” He is absolutely in control of His universe and nothing can happen that is outside His power and authority. John Piper expresses God’s sovereignty by stating, “God is supreme in all things. He has all authority, all power, all wisdom and He is all good.”
