The lack or abundance of neurotransmitters, ethical background, genetic structure, and predispositions have the ability to create one’s personality. Humans are more complex than other animals because they have the capability to develop a personality from the experiences that they’ve had in life. Depending on the severity of the experience, one may be more impacted than the other. A man who was mugged in a nice area will have been more impacted physiologically than a man who broke an expensive vase. This is because bad experiences tend to be locked into the hippocampus more so than a unimportant one. For example, a soldier who has suffered through the severe experience of combat could develop post traumatic stress disorder, making that person forever uneasy. It is this ability to create a complex personality from experiences that make people, human. In addition, only in humans does society play a role in developing their personality, for social standards can cause one to suppress certain urges, causing them to become an inmate in the forever expanding prison. Archetypes are roles that humans have conformed to for centuries: the gallant knight, the damsel in distress, the jock, and many others. These roles, although mainly prevalent in literature, point to the roles that people feel like they have to conform to in the real world. These roles demonstrate the wholeness and complexities of human experience.
