Characteristics Of A Hero's Journey

Many movies have heroes and many show different characteristics that make the hero unique in a story. Interstellar is a good example of a hero's journey and is written by Christopher Nolan and is about Earth being almost uninhabitable for humans. Cooper is an engineer and farmer and believes that humans are pioneers and should explore their surroundings. He wants the best for his kids and humanity but does not know he has the ability to prevent human extinction. Cooper characterizes many aspects of a hero such as leadership, courage, and selflessness while following the archetypal hero’s journey.

Cooper doubts himself on flying another spaceship as he could not accomplish it in the first place. Cooper’s daughter, Murph was always explaining a presence in her room that she was not scared of and called it a ghost. Cooper’s call to adventure occurred when one day, Murph left her windows open and dust entered the room. Cooper saw that there was binary code indented in the dust in his daughter's room and translated it into coordinates to an unknown location. He travels with his daughter to the location and gets interrogated by people he does not know once he arrived there. He then accepts the offer to save the human race as he is their only hope of finding another home. He does have a helper along the way which is a robot named TARS. TARS is loyal to the crew members Cooper will be traveling with but mostly helps Cooper throughout his journey. Cooper and his crew members finally launch and after two years enter the wormhole that is the shortcut to the solar system with the possible life sustaining planets. When Cooper enters the wormhole, he is leaving his solar system to the world of the unknown. Cooper faces many challenges such as leaving his kids behind just to save humanity. When the crew is on the other planets, Cooper is tested with getting out of life or death situations since the planets they were visiting posed a threat to their life and already killed one of the crew members. TARS is the loyal companion throughout Cooper’s journey providing him with advice and solutions to certain problems. TARS was programmed with a human personality which enabled Cooper to communicate with ease. TARS did have supernatural abilities which enabled him to be almost indestructible and was able to navigate
