“Naruto Uzumaki a modern day Beowulf” “ It doesn't take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.” Norman Schwarzkopf . In the epic poem Beowulf , written by the Anglo-Saxons; it focuses on a main character named Bowoulf. He is a Geatish warrior who serves a king named Higlac. Beowulf is an epic hero who embodies the different characteristic of a Hero. He is respected and known throughout the land because of his Bravery and his loyalty. There are many modern day heroes who have also embodied these traits. The concept of loyalty in Beowulf is not only shown in the various battles fought by Beowulf, it is also portrayed in his actions and relationships. Beowulf’s is always loyal …show more content…
First, Beowulf is a Geatish warrior who rushes to defend the Danes, leaving the safety of his own home. “In his far-off home Beowulf, Higlac’s follower and the strongest of the Geats...heard how Grendel filled nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out.(11)” Beowulf travels to Denmark without the command of his king, but from his own personal concerns and set off to face the danger that awaits him. When Beowulf arrives in Herot, he declares that he will defeat Grendel “My purpose was this:to win”(29). In his battle against Grendel, Beowulf used no weapons but his bare hands to rip off Grendel’s shoulder. Secondly, after Grendel was defeated, his mother killed the king’s loyal friend, Esher. In Beowulf's fight with Grendel's mother, he fearlessly jumped into the lake alone to defeat her. Years later Beowulf still shows bravery; after 50- years of Beowulf ruling the Geats, a fire breathing dragon burns his great hall. Beowulf leads his men to fight the dragon. Even though Beowulf is now king he chooses to fight alongside his warriors instead of sending them off alone. Beowulf bravely fights the fire breathing dragon with Wiglaf and dies in the process. Naruto is an anime about a boy named Naruto Uzumaki who lives in a ninja village. He is the son of the fifth hokage who was killed by the nine tail beast, Kurama, the day he was born. Naruto’s true parents were kept a secret from the villager and Naruto himself. In Naruto’s earlier years, he was often left alone and scorned by the villagers because he had the nine tails spirit sealed inside him. Naruto gets enrolled in the academy that grooms kids to be ninja’s. In the academy the kids are split into a three man squad, where they go on mission together and learn how to work as one unit. Naruto is put in a team with a girl named Sakura Haruno, and a boy named Sasuke Uchiha. During their chunin exams, Naruto jumps in the face of danger to saves Sakura from the one tail beast who attacks the leaf village. The one tail had its claw tightening around Sakura's neck so Naruto destroys his claw and fights the one tails by himself when he was only twelve years old. After some years have passed a new group called the Akatsuki form and their main goal is to collect all the tailed beasts and put the entire ninja world under a spell that would last for eternity. A member of the akatsuki called Pain destroys the hidden leaf and takes many lives. Naruto fought against all the six pains and kept the villagers away from the danger. Even though no one believed in him, he defeated all the pains and brought back all the lives
