Introduction The Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate and high protein diet that focuses on achieving weight loss in a short amount of time. As their website guarantees that one can “see results quickly [and] after just a few days...” (“The Program: Overview”). Showing that being on the diet consists of minimizing on the carbohydrates and increasing the protein that the body needs, it causes more health benefits. Atkins consists of four different unique phases that allows a person to limit themselves their intake of carbohydrates into the “personal carb balance”. From here they are able continue onto the next phases that merely focus on fruits, meats, and yogurts until the final stage which allows the consumption of whole grains and starchy vegetables. The person is then to repeat the phases and the intake of the different foods to retain the healthy weight and lifestyle. The diet claims to be a healthy method that can promote healthier lives and significant weight loss as “it has been around for over 40+ years” (“The Program : Overview”). Regardless for the amount of years that a diet has been available to the public, it needs to be a safe and healthy diet.

Often times, articles that are written to promote the Atkins diet state that the diet works only in the quick weight loss method, there is nothing stating the health effects on a person who eats the low-carbohydrate and high-protein diet. The best method of retaining a healthy and nutritional diet is when a person can balance out the nutritionally rich foods and to be physically active, not to use a quick method like the Atkins
