Some characteristics include being arrogant or jealous. These adjectives contradict those of a good friend. An arrogant friend will only think of himself/herself. They will not support friends because they believe that they are more important. A jealous friend is also a bad friend. A jealous friend would show envy of his/her friend’s achievements and accomplishments. According to Oxford online dictionary, a friend, “is a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations” (Oxford Living Dictionaries). One type of friend is a convenience friend. A convenience friend is a person whom one will gather to and be fond of for a temporary time. This includes when an individual is in a class. Seeing an individual everyday will build a friendship for the lasting time of the class. The friendship may not be as deep or meaningful but rather to just pass the time. Trust will most likely not be built and the friendship probably will not have meaning outside of the class period. Another example of a convenience friend is someone who may use the friendship to get things. This includes an individual building trust one sided for his/her own personal gain. A convenient friend portrays characteristics of a bad friend like being jealous of what another has. An example of this is when an individual becomes friends with another individual just to gain a ride to an upcoming concert, get food at a restaurant, or even homework answers.
