Characteristics Needed to Survive
In any situation a survivor must have the skills and abilities to overcome obstacles. Many people in today's world lack critical thinking, which can lead to them developing skills that can oneday shape their future. In order to survive one must have the ability to critically think because this skill is going away and many people that have this tend to have a good future ahead of them. Many employers want people with skills that require them to be smart and make the best choice. This helps them set a goal and push until they accomplish a task. Surely, with decisiveness and tenacity one can overcome any obstacle or challenge swiftly.

Tenacity is the strength to persevere. How strong a person’s will and hope is can define how strong their tenacity is. People can display mental toughness for short periods, but that is not really tenacity. To be truly tenacious, people must tolerate the intolerable and suffer through the insufferable until they have reached their goal. Kayla Montgomery is a great example of this, she has M.S. which blocks nerve signals from her legs to her brain as her body temperature increases. Despite this she continues to run track and follow her passion. “When I finish, it feels like there’s nothing underneath me,” Montgomery said. “I start out feeling normal and then my legs gradually go numb. I’ve trained myself to think about other things while I race” (Crouse). People get tired, they get frustrated, and they begin to doubt themselves or the process. If they just push through, they could have succeeded. People that possess tenacity look beyond an obstacle and treat it as an opportunity to improve.
