An example of this is when people wanted to read books. The government would send firemen, who now a days are supposed to put out the fires, to start the fires. All because people are interested in what is actually in those books. Montag thinks that since the government wants to burn all these books for no reason, there must be valuable information inside them that the government wants no one to know about. Montag wants to learn more about the past and why the government wants people not to read. He wants to figure out why they would want to burn peoples houses down with books inside. An example of his curiosity is when Montag got a call out on a fire mission to burn down a lady’s house. The lady refused to leave her house, she would rather start the fire and die there with her books, than let the firemen get the satisfaction of burning down her house. Montag did something different this time while in that house, he took one of her books home. Montag has been taking books from peoples houses without Beatty really knowing. There were also many suicides that happen in this time. “Beatty wanted to die,” (p122). Beatty wants to

As a result of the Cold War, many aspects in the American Culture changed immensely. It was a time in which two superpowers held each other hostage, each afraid that one would have complete control of the entire world. However, it also brought about the increase in technology, more specifically the television, which rapidly intruded people’s daily lives. In the interest of preventing communism from spreading to the west, the United States limited the amount of freedom of speech that was allowed in the country and advanced its technology in an attempt to always be a step ahead of the Soviet Union. Thus McCarthyism – the practice of making accusations of pro-communist activities – was incorporated, and led to the belief that any disagreement…

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a dystopian novel that takes the reader on a journey through a future world where books are illegal. The novel outlines the fact that books are important to civilization in many ways, whether it be content, characters, themes, or any important historical foundation that books contain. At the end of the book, the main character, Guy Montag, grabs a few books to save from the firemen, and finds himself amongst a group of homeless book lovers who each have books, or portions of books, memorized where they are safe from the hands of firemen and the government. With the idea of being in Montag’s place and having a choice of which books I would save, I would have chosen The Color Purple, The Wind in the Willows, and The Life of Pi, each for their own unique qualities that would be valuable for future civilizations for historical reference. Rich with gender and racial history, The Color Purple by Alice Walker exemplifies what life was like in the early 1900s for southern African American women.…

The U.S. Education System is Failing In school kids sit down, listen, and our told what they are supposed to do, and are rewarded for it, in today's world people cannot get very far from listening to institutions. In Fahrenheit 451 Montag express how people are not being taught how to think, they are being taught what to think. This relates to modern day education because, the way school is run it requires no talking, no planning out your own schedule, your not going by your time your going by the teachers and the school, and then when the real world comes, kids don't know how to manage their time because they’ve never had any to manage. Let alone that children need to be able to talk to other kids, but considering teachers tell students, (especially is grade school), to not talk.…

Beatty was the head captain of the firehouse and Montag one of his workers. One compelling question some may ask is, what is the difference between the two or what makes them different? Montag began to be full of curiosity and questions, as to why books are banned. Or even why some people would risk their lives to save them. Beatty has always had answers and was a very intelligent man, this led to some of Montag's curiosity.…

After this happened he started reading his secret stash of books and contacted Faber to get advice and an understanding of books and their purpose. The reason why Beatty and Montag got into a conflict was because Montag was reading books trying to understand them and become knowledgeable and now that he read a couple of them and talked to someone who has read many books and understands the purpose and their effects behind them he was reading the books in public, knowing it was illegal but he wasn't thinking that it would catch up with him. The overall theme of knowledge and ignorance connects to Montag's development through his realization of the purpose of books and him wanting to be knowledgeable and not fall in the ignorance of his society that the government has created by banning books. Another Quote that shows that Montag changed his view on life with or without a book is “"Listen. Easy now," said the old man gently.…
