Diagnosis of Holden Caulfield
Hello, everyone, my name is Dara. I am a member of the psychiatric team charged with treating Holden, he has been sharing his story with me lately. Holden Caulfield has been through a lot, he has his ups and downs which led him to having this condition. For the past few weeks of meeting with him. There have been some noticeable things i encountered. He showed different emotional and possibly severe physiological issues. By reading his diary, it might seem that he is a pervert, a bad influence ...etc. But here’s why. There’s always a reason behind every action and as i talk to Holden. There were signs of depressions, and most importantly the lack of motivation. I believed this happens because of the death of his brother. Allie. He loves his brother a lot. One emotion or feeling that is well known in Caulfield's life is a constant loneliness and depression which makes it very severe. Holden never made it to Allie’s funeral which means he never get to see him for the last time. The depression is very bad, it causes him

He is lacking motivation in school because he believes everyone is fake. He has no life goals and is depressed because he feels like life is unfair and he doesn't give people chance to prove something. Last but not least he doesn’t know how to cope with his surroundings and has a very poor relationship with people because of the fact that he thinks they are all phonies. My recommendation is to try to get Holden a job that is relatable in being a protector so he can feel more at ease and more motivated. Once he is motivated, it makes it easier for him to cope with his surrounding and to fit into social situations. Also, i recommend trying to get Holden into being more open-minded because he tends to judge people from how they look or seem at first, it is best to always give people a chance because you never know what can

Holden fears the possibility that he may spend the rest of his life as an outsider looking in. Although Holden attempts to change his social position, his mindset is out of place, preventing him from relating to how a normal individual would feel. Therefore, Holden struggles immensely in terms of making lasting connections with others, mainly because he cannot see eye to eye with them. “He focuses on the danger and potential death instead of love and a personal relationship” (Edwards).…

Reading the book I kept going back and thinking how much of a pain it would be to actually know Holden. He is always complaining about how things aren’t up to his standards and is always getting into arguments and picking fights that most of the time he can’t finish. I find Holden 's personality particularly odd because it tends to change like a switch when he 's around his sister, Phoebe. Holden adores his sister. When debating whether to run away or not, he doesn’t because he knows how much it would devastate her.…

17-year-old Holden Caulfield’s mother scheduled him for a psychiatric appointment in my office. On the phone, Mrs. Caulfield explained that everything seemed to start when Holden disappeared for 3 days, around Christmas last year, after being kicked out of his fourth boarding school. Phoebe Caulfield, Holden’s little sister, was the one that noticed his strange behavior and told her mother of these peculiarities when they started to worsen throughout the year. Holden displayed feelings of wanting to run away from home, not returning home, seeming sad, and having dissatisfaction with many things. When I asked for more family information, I was told Holden’s little brother died of leukemia at the age of 11 which was 3 years ago.…

It can be characterized through various symptoms. The individual must have suffered from at least one manic episode, which is an abnormally long portion of a persistent expensive, irritable, and excited mood. Typically, it takes at least one week for it to be considered; however, Holden’s hospitalization and subsequent psychological evaluation allowed for there to be a shorter time period in conclusion. Depression also happens to be a symptom of this disorder. Depression is not normal sadness; inadequacy and hopelessness accompany normal sadness and that produces depression.…

“‘How would you know you weren’t being a phony? The trouble is, you wouldn’t.’” (190). This messed up view is one reason why it’s so hard for Holden to grow up. He has come to the false conclusion that once people change and hit adulthood, they become phony and superficial.…

Holden Caulfield, a sixteen year old boy living in New York, has been sent to multiple boarding schools and share many similar experiences with J. D. Salinger, the author of The Catcher in the Rye. Holden is not like normal teenagers, who are full of life, crave adventure and look forward to new experiences. In contrast, he hates many things, gets depressed, especially around young children, and thinks that everybody; but, mostly adults are phony. On a psychological level, there are many factors in his childhood experience which may have influenced why he acts and thinks such a way. By applying Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytical theory, it is easier to understand what motivates Holden’s thoughts and actions, in addition to what Salinger experienced…

It seems like Holden Caulfield is suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder according to the transcript that I have been given. It is important to realize that the difference between Teen Grief and APD lies in the motivations of the patients. Teen Grief is usually a reaction to a traumatic experience in life or even that causes the patient to have feelings of depression and helplessness. Teen Grief can essentially be characterized as a disregard for one's life. APD is a mental disorder that one has little to no control over and is characterized as a disregard for others.…
