This seems to be normal for a child her age, but then she goes up and also leans in to kiss the scarlet letter. As the reader you would presume to believe that Pearl would want to destroy the scarlet letter, but instead she cherishes it.. Pearl believes that the scarlet letter is a part of her mother and when it is removed Hester becomes a total stranger to Pearl. Also, Hester is letting Pearl take advantage of her. Pearl even knows this and she still goes and “mocks”
