When veterans return from military service, one important avenue of return to cilivan life and career is through higher education. By the year 2020, it is estimated that 5 million service members will leave the service and a large portion of them will be choosing to attend college and universities. The post 9/11 GI Bill enacted in 2009 made it much more assessable for military veterans to attend college, by enacting financial incentives that pay for tuition, textbooks and housing. Important differences in culture and perceptual perspectives exist between student veterans and college personnel. Application of the Ethical Lenses Utilizing the three ethical lenses to apply the ethical reasoning, in regards to the rules, the Uniform Code of Military Justice is the foundation of military law in the United States. The United States Army’s Strategic Planning Guidance of 2014 lists five strategic priorities. These are, adaptive Army leaders for a complex world, a globally responsive and regionally engaged Army, a ready and modern Army, Soldiers committed to the Army profession, and the premier all-volunteer Army. September 25, 1942 marks the day that four thousand children marched through Washington D.C. to kick off “Schools at War”. Moreover, this was a federal program that enlisted the school-age population to join the war effort on the home front. In an effort by both the Department of the Treasury and the Office of Education, the program gave children the opportunity to “save, serve, and conserve.” Moreover, the children saved their money in the form of war bonds and stamps while serving their communities, schools, and nations as volunteers.
