As a person just like Holden who has such mental illnesses as depression some of the things that Holden says hit close to home. I relate with Holden on how a lot of things, like how he just says that certain things make him depressed and he doesn’t really know why. I don’t know if Holden or I would get a along considering that I get the vibe that he does not really like a lot of people for long. I won’t ever know if Holden would like me though, because he is just a fictional character.
Holden seems like an okay guy to me, he just changes his mood quite quickly in some situations. An example of Holden’s mood changing fast is when he was with Sally after skating and he all the sudden wanted to leave with her and after she rejected him he told her that she was a pain in the butt. Importance of an Episode -
One of the more important episodes in The Catcher In The Rye was near the end of the book. In the episode Holden decided he was going to become a deaf mute and live out west filling up peoples cars with gas. Here we see how Holden isn’t a very mentally stable person. A 16 year old can have dreams such as becoming famous or being president one day but Holden’s idea that he’s going to go out west and become a deaf mute isn’t really a dream that most 16 year olds have.
Before Holden thought of becoming a deaf mute he was walking and thought that he’d never make it to the end of the street. As Holden was walking he started talking this dead brother Allie, He asked Allie to make sure that he didn’t disappear. It is not uncommon for someone to talk to a deceased loved one, but Holden would thank Allie then for making sure he hadn’t disappeared. I don’t think that it’s common in someone who is mentally stable to thank their deceased brother for not letting them disappear. We see more of Holden and his disorders in this episode and that’s why I believe this episode was
