Character Analysis: Where Are There Are Still Heroes

Are There Still Heroes? Heroes seem to be assigned solely to fantasy or fiction anymore. Like Mr. Hassler in the book Hero, or the wide range of comic book heroes you could pick and choose from. Heroes, make a tendency of sliding under the radar to most people, giving rise to the assumption that there are not any. But, in truth, it does not take superpowers, or money to be a hero like people think. Because heroes are everyday people who take action to help other people, like Mr. Hassler, the hero in Hero, or parents in “Where I Find My Heroes,” and José Andrés in “Heroes.” A true literary hero is Mr. Hassler, the owner of the ranch Sean goes to in Hero. He is not special in any way other than his desire to help people. For instance, when Sean asks about the other kids who come to the ranch, James says, “‘Boss gets to have some say in the kids we get. He’ll only take them if he thinks maybe he can help them… Boss doesn’t want more than one here at a time. He wants to be able to give you his full attention’” (Rottman 78). Additionally, Mr. Hassler uses his ranch to help the community with various donations to the community and those who live in it. For example, James …show more content…
There are real life heroes too. One such hero, would be parents, who devote most of their lives to their children, and raising the next generation. For instance, Oliver Stone talks about the devotion of parents, saying, “It’s difficult to be a father, to be a mother, and I think that to be a kind and loving parent is an act of heroism” (Stone 820). Additionally, students are heroes of a sort, for staying with the seemingly endless grind to better themselves. Stone mentions this later in the same article, stating, “The student who defers the immediate pleasure of making money, and finishes college or high school. People who take risks despite fears” (Stone 820). It is these people that are the unsung and forgotten true heroes in the world

Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
