Many people have dealt with the loss of a loved one. It is something that can change you or your life drastically whether that it in a positive or negative way. In the novel We Are Called to Rise by Laura McBride, Bashkim goes through a lot especially when his Nene dies. McBride uses Bashkim’s struggle through the loss of a family unit to demonstrate that the loss of a safety and security from family members can cause one to lose their identity and cause their life to change negatively.
