In chapter four of The Westing Game the author uses the plot and Turtle’s reactions to it to develop her character as quirky, smart, determined, prepared, brave and feisty. She is quirky because even though she plans to do something scary and dangerous, she comes dressed in a full witch costume, wart and all, which is not the best attire for sneaking into someone’s house. The author suggested that Turtle is also smart and determined because she is saving to pay for a subscription to the Wall Street Journal which an average middle school girl would not be interested in. Another personality trait seen in this chapter is bravery because she agrees to go into the Westing House even though she is afraid. Turtle said that she wasn’t scared, but
