Examine Bradbury’s attitude towards technology in two or three relevant stories, comparing how each story handles scientific development and its consequences.
Most of Bradbury’s stories have to do with the future and with modern technology, which makes the stories more interesting. One of Bradbury’s stories, The Veldt, is about the kids of George Hadley that have a special room called “the nursery”. It is a room with a lot of modern technology. The room is supposed to help them work out their neuroses in a healtlful way and not in a dangerous one. In the story “The Veldt,” Bradbury shows us that “ the parents give the children everything they want and in return they give them secrecy and disobedience.” …show more content…
The city is designed to kill earthians when they finally arrive. When the earthians finally arrive to the city, the city’s senses speak to eachother. The city thinks that they are the enemies and kills the captain of the rocket. The city gives the captian new artificial parts and sows him back together. He then wakes up again and shoots Smith in the heart. The city speaks through the captain and the other men are shocked. The other men fall into the same trap the captain fell into and they now belong to the city and are forced to drop disease bombs in Earth and kill everyone. The city finally dies. In this story, “The City,” Bradburry shows us that “ the city was awoken” which means that the city is now functoning and its senses can do everything now. Since the men are controlled by the city, they are forced to follow their instructions. Both of these stories have a lot to do with technology and in both stories the technology always ends up causing something bad to happen. I think what Bradbury is trying to say from these stories is that sometimes you have to be careful with technology because is decitful and can be evil. So be careful what you do with technology because you never know what it can do to
