Character Analysis: The Tom Robinson Trial

I used to think that any person who carried a gun around had courage. Atticus had always tried to teach me that true courage is often not shown through physical actions. People that have real courage would do something even though they know that they will face hardships and that things may not turn out the way they want. When I look back at the Tom Robinson Trial, I realize that Atticus had more courage than most dads in Maycomb even though he was not tough. Although he knew that he would not win the case, he had to defend Tom Robinson because he knew that Tom was innocent. The outcome of the trial did not matter to him as much as knowing that he did the right thing. This showed me that I should not be afraid of failure, because if I do not
