Character Analysis: The Outsiders

Decent Essays
Are greasers good? Are Socs bad? Outsiders shows us all what dividing ourselves can do. It shows us the division we created just because they are different. Johnny, Dally, Darry, Sodapop, Ponyboy, and Two-Bit show us and our friends the divisions we create are terrible. I favorite character was Johnny because even after a traumatic experience he was still a kind person. He was willing to sacrifice himself for the lives of others. He may have died, however, he died a hero in the people's eyes. He was a good person in a bad environment. My least favorite would be either Two-Bit or Steve mainly because I never got to know the characters better since they weren’t in the book a whole lot. We couldn’t get to know them as well as Sodapop or Ponyboy.

In her novel The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton explores the theme that stereotypes are unfair and that therefore, one cannot judge an entire group of people based on these prejudices. A person is more than just a product of their community or circumstances, which is seen to be true in the characters of Johnny and Ponyboy. The Outsiders has two types of people, there are Greasers and Socs. The Greasers were the middle class unlike the soc who are more rich and Greasers are more wilder.…

The character that I had connected the most with is Grover Underwood. Grover met Percy in Yancy Academy and had stuck by Percy throughout sixth grade. “Grover has big dreams. To reach his goal, Grover must first demonstrate great courage by succeeding as a keeper, finding a camper and bringing him safely to Half-Blood Hill." Grover did not bring Percy safely back to camp Half-Blood the night the Minotaur attacked.…

My least favorite character from Elijah of Buxton is Mr. Leroy. Mr. Leroy was a hard-working man trying to earn the freedom of his family for over five years. However, once he had gotten all the necessary money he seemed to rush everything and want to get everything done as fast as he could no matter the price he paid. Mr. Leroy should’ve listened to the people around him who kept trying to tell him not to leave his money with a man whom no one really knew much about. It seemed he wasn’t thinking clearly that day when he sent his only way of getting his family back with a mysterious and peculiar person-the Preacher.…

The Electrifying Scorpio Races The folklore surrounding the mysterious water horse myth has always captured my fascination. Maggie Stiefvater 's The Scorpio Races takes this exceedingly ancient folktale and beguiles audience 's with her own unique retelling. There are decidedly few authors that can write in such a way that not only makes readers envision the setting, but she transports us there. Stiefvater 's opening of The Scorpio Races is both thrilling, and yet haunting with the declaration that someone will die on this day.…

O Brother, Where Art Thou, loosely based on Homer's "Odyssey," deals with the adventures of Everett McGill and his fellow fugitives Delmar and Pete in 1930s Deep South. It picks up with the trio in a chain gang where Everett is trying to get home to recover the buried loot of a bank heist. Along the story, the characters are faced with a series of odd characters- among them sirens, a cyclops, bank robber George Nelson AKA "Baby Face", a campaigning governor, a KKK mob, and a blind man who warns the three about the treasure. The story was an absolute great ride. The masterful acting of the cast led to a plentiful amount of hysterically funny moments.…

    Double Indemnity Analysis

Going into the film Double Indemnity I honestly cannot say I had high expectations; That being said, to my own surprise, I actually did personally enjoy this movie. While not anything particularly spectacular in relation to modern day films, Double Indemnity carried a unique charm that persisted throughout the whole movie that had me loving it. Of all the the characters throughout the show I was particularly impressed by the actors playing both Keyes,Lola and Mr. Norton who I believe did an excellent job in portraying their characters through their mannerisms, tone, and speech. The emotion, or lack thereof that these actors put into their characters throughout was very thorough and well done.…

Throughout the book it gives details on the struggles that the kids with no money have to go through every day. It also gives insight into the true motives and feelings of people and how not everything is perfect, even for the people who seem to have it that way This book is told from the view point of a fourteen year old greaser named Ponyboy Curtis.…

Ponyboy knows that Johnny could fight if he needed but Johnny says “fighting’s no good. . . .” (148). He believes that fighting does not answer the problems the greasers and the Socs have. Before Johnny died he wrote a note in Gone With the Wind and left the book for Ponyboy.…
