Cinder now lives in the Commonwealth of New Beijing with her rude stepmother, her two stepsisters, and an android named Iko. One of the stepsisters is very nice and caring while the other one is very selfish and hateful. Iko is Cinder’s best friend, who loves shoes and has a flawed personality chip. Unlike Cinder, Scarlet lives a sheltered life on a farm in the small town of Rieux, France. She has no siblings and no mother, but she does have a best friend named Émilie. She has lived with her loving, yet eccentric grandmother for the past seven years. Next, their overall skills are definitely on the opposite sides of the spectrum. Cinder is a rather talented mechanic who can repair almost anything with limited materials and can identify a problem quickly. She is known as the best mechanic in the Commonwealth. Due to Cinder being Lunar she also has the ability to control humans by manipulating the thoughts and emotions triggered by the bioelectricity that their bodies give off.
Scarlet grows and delivers farm-fresh produce to local restaurants around town and takes care of the animals back on her homestead. She is also able to pilot spaceships like her grandmother. In time, Scarlet learns other skills including how to fight from a new-found friend named
