Character Analysis: The Junk Man

In my opinion, Arthur definitely shows that he is dedicated, and angry, and upset. You can tell Arthur is upset by all the things he thinks and says about his father passing away. He's constantly bringing up memories of him, and having nightmares about him too. For example, on page 29, after Barbara asked if his dad went heaven, It says " Arthur wasn't sure. About heaven or anything else. He had lots of doubts. Doubts that often kept him awake. Sometimes they gave him nightmares." And of course we cannot forget the part where threw the brick at the junk man. The whole book was because of Arthur's dad's hat, and this is obviously another reason why he is upset. Like on page 15, it thoroughly explained that Arthur was releasing all the anger he had since his Dad's death. …show more content…
Not only that, but finishing Mr. Hampton's masterpiece was probably his biggest priority after Mr. Hampton died. Like on page 215 and 216, When Arthur walked into the Garage owner moving all of the Junk man's Art, he totally flipped out and asked if there was any way to keep the garage so he could put back together the Throne of the Third Heaven. Following up from that, I also think Arthur is angry. He has so much weight on his shoulders right now, and this is causing him to doubt about frankly everything. But I think he was especially mad that his mother got a new boyfriend. Arthur clearly thought that she was trying to replace his dad, and he was obviously not going to be okay with that. You can see this because in the book, it stated "This was worse than throwing out his dad's stuff. This was throwing out his dad and replacing him with someone
