Character Analysis: The Bachelor

Like most reality shows do, The Bachelor has its fair share of problems. Especially in a show where it’s centered around dating, most of these problems, unfortunately, have to do with sexism. The producer of The Bachelor abandons all morals in a bid to increase the show’s ratings, for money, by creating catfights and even encouraging the women to slut-shame one another on national television. Millions of women at home find great pleasure in watching the total humiliation of other women, and the worse things get for the contestants, the better the ratings. Contestants degrade and undermine each other in an effort to make themselves appear better and more superior to the Bachelor and then get involved in sexist activities the directors get them to participate in.
First, it was the robot-baby group date when Bachelor Richie Strahan and the producers decided the ladies’ maternal skills should be put to the test. As seen in the clip, the ladies were woken up by the sound of a crying baby and were assigned the task of taking care of these plastic, programmed computers. The woman who cooked the tastiest chilly crab dish got to spend extra time with the Bachelor. Just how this was even approved as one of the group date ideas is mind-boggling. This positions the reader to view woman as just objects that are only worthy to a man if they have the potential to cook a somewhat tasty meal. The impact this has on everyday life stretches far further than you might think, with implications such as, “women are cooks” and other similar stereotypical portrayals of woman, we are almost “brainwashed” into thinking it is the norm when really it’s just a very sexist judgement and all Just because of their gender, no other
