“High school is supposed to be the most important and most exciting time of your teenage years” said every parent ever...but for Emily Kessler, it was the complete opposite , and having to deal with her biggest competition/rival, Dominique, makes it no better. In M.Dotty’s novel Surviving High School, it was either sink or swim for Emily because she was compared daily to her sister Sara’s swimming achievements. 1. How will you fit The Prospect into your busy high school schedule? When will you do your assignments, and how will you complete your TP work on a particularly busy week? I'd like to say that I'm naturally adaptive to time-crunch situations. In junior year, I took on two internships that both had scheduled meetings, work agendas, and time-consuming projects.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

Like most reality shows do, The Bachelor has its fair share of problems. Especially in a show where it’s centered around dating, most of these problems, unfortunately, have to do with sexism. The producer of The Bachelor abandons all morals in a bid to increase the show’s ratings, for money, by creating catfights and even encouraging the women to slut-shame one another on national television. Millions of women at home find great pleasure in watching the total humiliation of other women, and the worse things get for the contestants, the better the ratings. Contestants degrade and undermine each other in an effort to make themselves appear better and more superior to the Bachelor and then get involved in sexist activities the directors get them to participate in.…
