In South of Broad by Pat Conroy young Leo King has came across a character that is a threat to Leo's life. In chapter six Leo is out before dawn riding his bicycle down a dark and damp alley. Leo is thrown from his bicycle onto the ground by a big muscular man. The Man is wearing a ski mask so his face is not visible. Leo is picked up and a knife is put to his throat. The dark, mysterious man knows Leo's life inside and out. The man is Sheba Poe's father. He knows that Sheba and Leo had sex on the night her house was broken into. With the knife still on Leo's neck, the man makes Leo swear that he will never have sex with Sheba again and to not tell anyone about this encounter or his mother or father will be killed.
