Mockingbirds are beautiful, singing many songs. Showing up in many ways. They do nothing other than amuse and sing for listeners enjoyment, but why hurt them? After growing up, Jem becomes courageous, protective, loving and caring. He is like a mockingbird once he grows up a bit he becomes really nice but he still gets insulted and hurt. Tom is a generous man doing things like spending time with Mayella to help her around the house, he shows respect when he made sure that when Mayella kissed him to not push or hurt her and finally kind-hearted because he did not ask for money every time he helped, just doing it because she seemed lonely and the kindness in him. Tom is a generous man showing this in his testimony of all the times he helps Mayella with the chores and helping where ever he can even though his family waiting for him at home. “...One day she asked me to come inside the fence and bust up a chiffarobe for her”(191) later Judge Taylor asking “ Did you ever go on the place again?” Tom answering “ Yes suh.” with Judge Taylor “When?” and finally Tom saying “Well, I went lots of time”(191) further on Tom saying “ She’d call me in, suh. Seemed like every time I passed by yonder she’d have some little somethin’ for me to do-choppin’ kindlin’, totin’ water for her…” (191) And finally he’s also respectful cause Tom says “ She reached up an’ kissed me ‘side of th’ face.” (194) Later also saying “I didn’t wanta push her or nothin’.” (195) showing his respect trying not to push her to hurt her cause that would one be bad since he is black but he is still quite the gentlemen. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Arthur aka Boo Radley is a mockingbird because he is a kind recluded person getting harassed by everyone because he’s different but he’s really just a nice person, shy and even protected Jem and Scout from their attacker showing his courage. To begin with, Boo is nice because he gave many things to Scout and Jem through the knothole till his brother Nathan clogged it up with cement because it was “dying” as Scout and Jem thought but really isn’t much proof. “We were walking past our tree. In its knot-hole rested a ball of gray twine”(59) after a bit of talking Jem convinced Scout not to take it yet and leave it waiting to see if someone like Walter Cunningham would take it back. “We went back home. Next morning the twine was where we had left it. When it was still there on the third day, Jem pocketed it. From then on, we considered everything we found in the knot-hole our property.”(59). This isn’t his only characteristic trait of Boo’s. Next is that Boo by nature is shy not leaving his house often not only this, but he is also according to Jem hiding from the racism and the discrimination. “...Scout, I think i’m beginning to understand something. I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley’s stayed shut up in the house all this time. . . it’s because he wants to stay inside.” (227).
