ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jhumpa lahiri is an Indian American author and won 2000 Pulitzer prize for fiction. Her first novel the namesake is included in the same and got many awards for it. The story namesake tells us about culture and living sense of two country as the character gogol brought up in another country. It show the difference of mentality.

Gogol hate his name as the Americans make the fun of Gogol and he got rid of his old Indian tradition because of his name, then he changed his name to Nikhil Gogol. He educate from Yale and Colombia, and get a job at fancy pants architecture firms in New York. When Gogol was around one year old Ashoke got a bad news that ashima’s father was no more then, they decided to visit their hometown for six weeks. In 1971 the family shifted to a new house on pemberton road where there is no house of Bengali. When Gogol entered in the kindergarten Gogol was asked for name preference as Gogol or Nikhil but Gogol remain with its name. when Gogol enter in the Yale, he name himself as Nikhil. on Gogol’s fourteen birthday Ashoke present a books of nikolia Gogol but Gogol doesn’t respond to the present as he found the music more interesting than reading book. On seeing response Ashoke relate an incident of his life with Gogol in which he is nearly died that one day before marriage he was going to his grandfather’s home by train and on the way he had a talk to a man and tell him about the author nikolia Gogol and his books, and his father is reading the book and stranger is drinking. Suddenly the train crashed and Ashoke nearly died but the book of nikolia Gogol saved his life. From that time Ashoke was a great fan of nikolia Gogol and he named his boy as Gogol.
