Over the summer I read the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. This book is about a girl named Tally, she is an ugly. Tally has to go on a trip to a place called the smoke and betray one of her best friends to become pretty. On her trip Tally made new friends and also an emamy. In the end Tally learned to love the herself the way she was and no longer wanted to be pretty. Uglies are a group of people who society considers ugly. There are multiple different classes though. first there are littlies then, uglies then, new pretties, middle pretties ,and then late pretties.

An important passage from the book is “Once in the smoke, she could activetivate the pendent and be home within a day maybe within hours. All the food and clothes she would ever need, hers for the asking. Her face pretty at long last and Peris and all there old friends around her.” (Westerfeld 184)

The theme of the book is friendship and how other people's action can cause you a consequence. I know this because the main character Tally went through alot but her friends were always there to support her. After Tally was sent

Tally is loyal because she keeps her promises and goes through with the plans she makes. I know this because in the text it states “ Just promise me that you won’t do any more stupid tricks.’Peris said ‘Like coming here.Something that’ll get you in trouble.’ I promise. Nothing stupid.”(Westerfeld,18) This is the promise that Tally made to Peris when she snuck into new pretty town.Tally made this promise to Peris and mostly kept the promise but she didn’t completely stay out of trouble. Also in the text it says “ I can’t help you.’ Tally said ‘I made a promise.” (Westerfeld,106) This is when Tally was in special circumstances and Dr.Cable asked her about where Shay was. Tally had promised Shay she wouldn’t tell anyone where she was going and she partially kept that

Every story has a title, but how does the the title affect the story. In my book club story, The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld the title gives an overall appearance of what the story is about. The book Uglies is about a dystopian society where in order to be accepted at age 16 you have to go through a process in order to become "pretty" which included plastic surgery. For our main character, she is an "ugly" and it guides her through her days in the life. The title helps guide the reader on who the main character is and her adventures as an "Ugly".…

The Big Muddy It is the longest river in all of North America and the fourth longest in the World. It runs through a total of 31 different states and 2 Canadian provinces. The river has served as a main route of transportation and trade throughout the history of the U.S. as well as a border and a communication route. I’ve been to the Mississippi in Minnesota and Missouri and it is a big, muddy, slow moving river with about as much history as a river can have. Now in the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which is one of the greatest pieces of text in all of American literature, ever!…

In my book, Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25, the theme is teamwork. Throughout the entire book, the characters all help each other to achieve their shared goals. For example, when Michael needed a ride to Pasadena, the school bully who stayed back in school and has a license, got him there. Also, when Michael, Taylor, and Ostin started the Electroclan, they helped each other by researching what happened to them making them electrical. For these reasons, I think the following article, poem, and short video suite my book’s theme.…

All stories have a theme, but they may not always be directly stated. This requires readers to dig deep down into the text and analyze the lessons that they have acquired through the book. Between the two excerpts, "Angelas Ashes" and "The Street", there is common theme that perseverance is important when times get tough in life.…
